It’s hard to believe, but Halloween is here again. It’s that time of year when people celebrate the spookier things in life: scary movies and carving menacing jack-lanterns out of pumpkins.

The celebration of Halloween goes back thousands of years. Celtic people honoured the end of the summer season with Samhain — sort of the original, ancient version of Halloween. People celebrated their gods and goddesses with dancing and feasting, but they also celebrated those who had recently passed away by honouring their souls and spirits. While they wanted to commemorate the dead’s souls, people wore masks and costumes to avoid any potential contact with the recently deceased. They didn’t want any resentful or evil spirits to harm them, so by hiding under a costume, they felt safe.

Of course, Halloween is a little different now than it was thousands of years ago, but it’s still common practice to dress yourself and your home up for the scary holiday.

If you have kids, you’ve probably been thinking about what decorations to put up all summer. Are you the type of family that turns your front yard into a haunted graveyard? Or do you prefer homemade crafts, such as posting cut-outs of ghosts and goblins all over your front windows? You don’t have to be a parent to enjoy Halloween — people of all ages look forward to the gruesome holiday. To frighten your neighbours this year, why not dress up your front windows with spooky decorations? We’re Casa Bella Windows & Doors and Halloween happens to be one of our favourite holidays because we love to see our windows in full creepy-mode. Let’s look at how you can turn some of our selected window styles into ghostly delights!

Nightmare on Your Front Window

What’s scarier than a shadow of a vampire or a big, scary monster? Homemade black silhouettes of ominous creatures are perfect if you have a big casement window (or several) on your home’s façade. We carry vinyl casement windows that come in a large variety of sizes and colours, and all of our models are energy efficient. Casement windows are hinged on the side and open outward like a door. Such windows provide ample space to stick spooky images on with double-sided tape for the Halloween season.

Scare your neighbours by filling your windows with images of haunted castles, black cats, and other ghouls! The first step is to find the right printable stencils online. Purchase some construction paper (black, of course) from the local craft shop and trace your scary images’ outlines on to the paper. Next, with your double-sided tape, stick them on your front windows. Some people also like to add a wax paper layer between the window and the black cut-outs for a filtered, smoky effect.

The Texas Chainsaw Bay Window

You may not know it, but your bay and bow window are the ideal places for Halloween decorations. A bay or bow window provides so much character to your home  — inside and out. They bring in light and warmth, and they add a unique, elegant touch to the outside of the house. Most importantly, they also happen to be perfect little nooks to create terrifying Halloween scenes!

Turn your bay or bow window into a bone-chillingly haunted graveyard. Purchase gauze from the craft store to make the smoky base of the scene, and some skulls and tiny tombstones from the dollar store. Such a display can be enjoyed from the outside and the inside of your home. Add some hanging lights to the window so people can get a thrill as they pass by!

With the right windows, you can turn your entire home into an exciting attraction for trick-o-treaters and pedestrians. At Casa Bella, we want to bring our customers efficient, reliable, and high-quality products, while also providing long-lasting memories and a comfortable place to call home. If you’re going to decorate your house, but your windows are either too small, too dirty, or simply aren’t functioning correctly, consider chatting with us to learn more about the perfect set of replacement windows for your family to decorate and remember for many years to come.
